The New President

Dear Mr. Barack Obama,

I'm so glad you are going to be the president. I bet the White House is pretty cool. I also heard that you are turning the bowling alley into a basketball court. Is that true? If it is...you probably like basketball. My brother likes basketball too. Oh, and one more thing. I hope you have a good time being president.

Barack Obama was elected president last month. He is our first African American president. I heard on TV that Obama is getting a dog. And did you know that the White House has 136 rooms, 36 bathrooms, a bowling lane, which Obama is turning into a b-ball court. And the White House has a running track and a pool. Obama has a wife and two daughters. The daughters names are Sasha and Malia.

Barack Obama got elected President of the United States in November I think. I wanted Barack Obama to win. I like Barack Obama because he wanted the war to end. He is going to get a dog. I think they should get a Chihuahua.

You finally got your wish because Barack Obama is the first African American president. And next week he will be in the White House. My teacher showed us two minutes and eighteen seconds of your I Have a Dream speech on YouTube. He also showed us a nine minute video called Martin's Big Words. The video was about your life.

To kick off our study of insects, we broke open the mealworms and observed them using magnifying glasses. Listen as PN relates his observation.

Kids Say the Darndest Things

EV is just back from Dubai and Malaysia. JA says,
"Isn’t Malaysia a disease? A ton of people died in Panama because of Malaysia."

We talk briefly about Snuggies, basically a fleece blanket with sleeves. We think it would be cool if we all had Snuggies and book lights so we could read all day. CB reminds us that, "They’re not available in stores."

We notice that laboratory, lavatory, and Labrador sound very similar, but mean very different things. What a wonderful language we have!

We wonder about why Mr. Coulter calls JA 'Jacksonian Democracy' all the time, and we also wonder if PN's dad knows more about Jacksonian Democracies than we do...because every time we see him he's carrying around a massive history book.

The Skate Park

When there was no school, Dad and I went to the skate park. This teanager taught me how to do an Ollie. Then he taught me to do a…I forgot what it was called, but I didn’t do it because I did not have a lot of confidence to do that trick. But I promised my dad that I will do it next time.

Christmas

On Christmas we were home. First we woke up. Then everybody came to the table. We waited and waited and then we saw my mom. We opened our presents. I got Build a Bear clothes. It said Santa’s Little Helper. My second present was a Build a Bear tent. Time passed by and passed and passed and it was Christmas night. Everybody went to the windows except my dad. He was getting milk. Then someone knocked on the window. It was Santa!. He didn’t come in but we saw him. Then my dad came. We all went to the sofa. First my dad opened the first present. The second was for my mom. The next present was for my sister. She got a toy from NASA. Then it was my turn to open my present. I got three action figures. They were from Star Wars. One was a storm trooper. The second was Rex. The third was a clone trooper. Then my dad went and then my mom went and then my sister and it kept on going. Then there was one more present for me. I opened it. It was the City Lines. Then I built the City Lines.

Winter Break

Over winter break I went to the mountains and went sledding. We went to a ski club. The snow was two feet deep. It was hard to get up to the top. When I got up it was fast going down! I made a jump. It was awesome. I had a great time!

Sledding with My Friend

Last week I went sledding with my friend. I didn’t really know her at first. My mom took me to my friend’s street. Her friend has a daughter named Kayla! I was so excited to meet her! Her house was huge! I almost got lost. I just didn’t know where to go! After a while she let me borrow some socks, a sweater and snow pants. I wore my own jacket. I had never been sledding before in my whole life! But now that I did I wanna do it again! Every time I walked by houses I thought they were huge! We kept sledding there. When I went down I made it halfway. We were throwing snowballs and building stuff made out of snow.
